St Croix Chaney Post Earrings, Green, on Sterling Silver Posts
Chaney is a Virgin Islands term for locally found pieces of broken porcelain dating back to the early 1700s. The Cruzan term "Chaney" comes from English words "change" and "money". Island children found these broken pieces of porcelain and thought they sounded like money in their hands, therefore using these pieces as play money or as markers for their hopscotch squares. As adults they took pieces they were fond of and turned them into jewelry to remind them of home when living abroad.
Our Chaney is only made from locally sourced pieces. They are cleaned and set into Stirling Silver. When designing a pendant, we try to stay as close as possible to the original shape.
All Chaney pieces are hand crafted by the owner of the Natural Jewel, Michelle.
All handmade items take up to 2 weeks for crafting and shipping.
